Surprise Surprise

Finding a wheelchair that is comfortable and functional for me and my surroundings has been a challenge—it has been tougher than becoming disabled at times. I currently have five wheelchairs, from the Cadillac version ($10,000) to the good ol' transport chair.

I just purchased the GoRide Electric Wheelchair—24V 6Ah Battery. I love it. It is lightweight and comfortable, and I can move around my home with ease. It's not bulky and folds nicely when not in use.

My issue is small, and I hope someone has an idea: the inflexibility and rigidity of the foot pegs. Is there no way to adjust them? I paid a decent amount on the chair and don't necessarily want to pay someone for modifications. Any ideas or suggestions would be great.

Thank You - Renee' Long

Such a great wheelchair

Purchased this February 2024. Love it, so portable and affordable. I would like to know if you have more attachments for this chair. I would like to add a light for nighttime. People always ask questions about it. I would like some flyers to handout. Being handicapped, I am in and out many doctors' offices and I would like to hand out information. I also purchased the chair lift to get me off the floor when I fall. l saw it on the Amazon site.

Plusses and Minuses

Overall, I like it for my father. The choices for a lighter electric powered wheelchair is extremely limited, and this one is notably cheaper than the bigger brand on the market. Having said that, here are the plusses & minuses so far:
PLUS: lightweight and very portable, folds up like push wheelchair, cushioned ride w/ air tires (note: will be deflated upon delivery - have bicycle pump on standby), easy maneuverability w/ joystick, armrests able to be lifted fully out of the way for transfers
MINUS: seating relatively more narrow to begin with - when folding foot rests up, even more narrow, transfers inhibited by foot rests (even though armrests able to be moved out of the way as above) that prevent side-by-side seat transfers.

The last minus was the reason for only 3 stars instead of 5. For a patient who has significant leg weakness or paralysis, being able to transfer (or even slide, eg using a transfer board) from the side is integral to the wheelchair feature. Had the foot rests swung out and be removable similarly to a push wheelchair, I would have given 5 stars. This would enable the wheelchair to also get the closest possible for transfer. Folding up the foot rest enables the wheelchair to be positioned closely, but the footrests themselves actually end up going to where the armrests were, thus preventing side-by-side transfers.

My current temporary solution has been to remove the foot rests for transfers and to replace the screws that hold the foot rests in place (one on each side) with a 3/16" allen wrench (I had 2 extras) for easy on and off that fit snug enough to not fall out/slide out easily (sorry, too lazy to post pic). Ultimately, I plan to replace this with a clevis pin for better security - will need to go to hardware store, since Amazon doesn't quite carry the right dimensions. Hope this helps others till SuperHandy considers redesigning foot rests.

Got it

Just got wheelchair yesterday, charged batteries (got 1 extra), and made sure it works. Seems heavier than listed but still is lighter than expected. Found some broken black plastic in package but have not identified any broken part on chair. I expect to put this chair to good use. Just so everyone knows you can charge spare battery and keep it on wheelchair for when first one runs out of juice.
